One of the most common mistakes of rookie triathletes is trying to change clothes between portions of the race. Nothing is more difficult than trying to put a wet cycling jersey on when you’re dripping water from the swim. Whatever you choose to wear, ideally it will be tight-fitting and quick-drying. There are plenty of triathlon-specific tops and shorts out there, but if you’re just getting started, there’s nothing wrong with a pair of running shorts and a Lycra top or sports bra. Some races will allow men to compete without a top on as well.
