What's the purpose of a wetsuit?
Wetsuits were originally designed to provide athletes with warmth in cold water. However, they also provide two other very helpful benefits. The buoyancy of a wetsuit makes it easier to float and keep your body flat in the water, a position that will help you swim faster. Additionally, the slick coating on the neoprene has a lower drag coefficient than your bare skin does, meaning you slide through the water with less resistance.
